SimplRead for Chrome

Simplify any article without leaving the page. Click the extension icon, scan the page or your selection, and read one short slide at a time.

Why use the extension

Most long reads start in the browser. The extension removes the copy-paste step: open the article you already meant to read, click SimplRead, and get plain-language slides in the same calm reader you use on the web and phone. Sign in once to sync history and settings with simplread.com.

Install

Takes about a minute.

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store listing and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Confirm the install. Pin the SimplRead icon to your toolbar so it stays visible.
  3. Open any article, click the icon, and choose Scan page or Scan selection.
  4. Optional: open Settings to sign in, use SimplRead tokens, or add your own API key.

Scan page vs scan selection

Scan page is best for clean article layouts. Scan selection is better when the page is huge, mixed with comments, or only one section matters — highlight first, then simplify just that text. If a site blocks extraction, paste into the web app instead.

What you get

  • Works on articles, posts, and selected text
  • Same slide reader as the web and mobile apps
  • Optional account sync for history across devices
  • Hosted tokens or bring-your-own API key

Accessibility on the desktop

Keyboard controls (space and arrows) move between slides. Dyslexia-friendly options, bionic-style text, and themes match the web app. See How it works and our dyslexia-friendly reading tips.
